Phil Chovan - #84

Don Sapp - #126

Don SappDon Sapp is a 45-year fire service veteran. He was formerly on staff at the Georgia Fire Academy as a Live Fire Instructor.  Also, Don served 25 years with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department as a Sergeant and 10 years with Henry County Fire Department as a Lieutenant before retiring.

Don is an active member of the Axioms of Leadership and the Firefighters Laboring And Mastering Essential Skills (F.L.A.M.E.S.) programs.  While attending the F.L.A.M.E.S program Don received #126, the same number he received 29 years earlier from the Georgia Smoke Diver Program.

Don also works Logistics for the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), is a Dive Master, Hazardous Materials Technician, NPQ Firefighter I & II, and is a member of the Georgia Firefighters Association.

Joel Yoder - #192

Joel YoderJoel Yoder is 40-year fire service veteran, retired as Assistant Chief (Operations) with the Rockdale County Fire Department.  He began his career with the City of Conyers Fire Department, where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant at 21 years old, becoming one of the youngest fire officers in the state of Georgia.  His department consolidated with the county, where he was promoted to Captain in 2007 and Battalion Chief in 2010. 

Joel became a certified fire service instructor in 1983, and has served as an Adjunct Instructor for the Georgia Fire Academy and a Hands-on Instructor with Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).  He has an AAS in Fire Science Technology.  In 2011 Joel was asked to serve as his department's Acting Fire Chief until a permanent Chief was named. Joel was then promoted to Assistant Chief (Operations) in 2012.

Wayne Johnson - #221

Mike Lee - #278

Mike Lee is a 34-year fire service veteran, retired in 2011 as the Deputy Chief of Training with the Rockdale County Fire Department.  He began his career in 1977 as a volunteer with Rockdale County and the City of Conyers.  He then joined Conyers as a paid firefighter in 1982 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1984.

Mike worked as an adjunct instructor with the Georgia Fire Academy, instructing all live-fire courses as well as many of the National Fire Academy courses.  He also worked with the U.S. Forestry Service, achieving certifications as Division Supervisor and Structural Protection Specialist while serving on National Type 2 and Type 1 Incident Management Teams.

Mike is an NPQ certified Fire Instructor III and Fire Officer IV, and holds an A.S. In Fire Service technology and a B.S. in Fire Department Administration. After retirement Mike has taught for the University of Colorado at Department of Defense locations across the country.

Daryl Purvine - #334

Daryl PurvineDaryl Purvine is a 37-year fire service veteran, retired as a Lieutenant with the City of Smyrna Fire Department.  Daryl is an Elder for the Georgia Smoke Diver Program, a Fire Service Instructor, a Hazmat Technician, a Paramedic and a CPR Instructor.

Daryl once played football at the University of Alabama for legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.

 

Paul Linder - #370

Paul LinderPaul Linder is a 40-year fire service veteran, retired as a Fire Captain after 28 years with the DeKalb County Fire Department. He spent the remainder of his career with Walker County Fire as Deputy Chief of Operations and retired as the Fire Marshal. He began his career with the Post Volunteer Fire Department, where he was promoted up to the rank of Assistant Chief of Training at 28 years old.

Paul became a certified fire service instructor in 1989 and has served as an Adjunct Instructor for the Georgia Fire Academy for Basic Firefighter, Structural Fire Control and Georgia Smoke Divers. He is an NPQ Fire Instructor III and Fire Officer IV.

Darrell Shelnut - #392

Jack Sorrells - #453

Jack SorrellsJack Sorrells is a 33-year fire service veteran, retired as Captain on Truck 14 with the Technical Rescue Team for Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services.  Jack graduated from the Georgia Smoke Diver program in the Fall of 1990, the Texas Smoke Diver program in the Spring of 2011, and has been a Guest Instructor with the Tennessee Smoke Diver program as well.

Jack serves as a Hands-on Instructor with the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), Metro Atlanta Fire Fighters Conference (MAFFC), and Metro Atlanta Extrication & Technical Rescue Conference (MAETRC). He has an AAS in Fire Science Technology and a BA in Finance, and is a Hazardous Materials Technician and Technical Rescue Technician.

In his past life, Jack served in the United States Army, stationed 4 years with the 5th INF Division.
